'gnome' is just a meta-package that depends on a bunch of other stuff, and IIRC, it hasn't been updated for GNOME 2 completely, yet. If you try to actually install some gnome2 component, apt will pull down everything it needs. Try 'apt-get install nautilus2 gnome-session' maybe? -rob
