Gnome Panel won't load

Hi!
What can I do when my gnome (1.4 as in woody) panel won't load anymore. I get my bachground and icons but no panel. I suspect this is because of some buggy applets I used (the last time it worked i got a message about some applet not responging). This has happened on two boxes now.

The applets I used (on both machines):
-Gnome menu
-Desktop switcher
-Tasklist
-Swap,Mem,Cpu,Net monitors
-Mailcheck
-Diskfree (I believe this might be the problem)
-Clock

Is there a log for gnome-panel somewhere where I can see error messages?
Any other similar experiences?
