This morning I installed via wajig what should have been a routine
kernel-image upgrade from 2.6.8-15 to 2.6.8-16. Of course alsa is now
toast. Ok I've been here before, no need to bother debian.user over this.
FATAL: Error inserting snd_pcm
(/lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/kernel/sound/acore/snd-pcm.ko): Unknown symbol
in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error running install command for snd_pcm
etc.
~ This happens every time. Arrgghh!!! I CVS'd that latest version of alsa
to recompile the module so that it would harmonise with the latest
kernel-image. The configure part goes ok and then I run make and get:
/lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/build modules
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/source: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [compile] Error 2
I'm sure I've had this problem before. googling does not provide any
obvious answer. Anyway, I have a /lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386 folder but the
source source file in it has a link to somebody named Horms. I obviously
have to link /lib/modules/source somewhere but where?
