On shutdown the system locks up when it tries to disconnect the Sony
DRX-510UL USB dvdrw drive.
This lockup did not occur when discovery was installed but with
discovery installed the drive was reported in /proc/bus/usb/devices but
with no mount point.
A posting on the list suggested switching to discovery1. This did give
access to the drive as /dev/sr0 but the system still locks up during
shutdown.
With both discovery and discover1 purged the device is recognized as
/dev/sg0 and performs prefectly but the system still locks up during on
shutdown.
The shutdowns are unavoidable. My grandsons want to play games which
only run with Windows.
Perhaps of interest: With kernel-2.4.26 the drive is recognized as
/dev/sr1 but cdrecord had problems using it.
With kernel-2.6.8 and discovery1 the
drive is recognized as /dev/sr0 but cdparanoia and cdrecord cannot use
it. Date cd's can be mounted and read.
With kernel-2.6.8 and no discovery or
discovery1 the drive is recognized as /dev/sg0 and cdparanoia and
cdrecord have no trouble using it. It is not recognized as a block
device and data cd's cannot be mounted.
