I've never seen this before... On a new install, when I left click the mouse on the console, I see:
QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ middle clicking gives: E EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE right clicking gives: WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW The mouse otherwise works good on the console. It works perfectly in X. I've never seen this before. Why does mouse clicking produce these characters (cut and paste in the console doesn't work at all).
