If sending to an address outside your own local machine then you have no control over whether the mail bounces or not. That is set up by the adminstrator of the mail host where you are sending the mail. Many ISP's do not bounce mail sent to addresses that do not exist because robot software can use that info to build a database of valid addresses at that domain for spamming purposes. It rather sucks for real users because if you mis-type an email address you never know that the intended recipient never got the message unless they were expecting it and ask you about it.
