Before getting a new mobo, you might see if a BIOS upgrade is available that lets you increase the video RAM.
Also, there's some sort of video setting for some chipsets, like "IgnoreBIOS", that goes into XF86Config-4, that might get around this limitation, but that's a vague memory, and I never really understood its function, so I might just be making noise.
