Hi, Upon closer examination of log files, the following errors were encountered.
In syslog, "kdm_greet[875]: Can't open default user face. In kdm.log, "kdmcore(KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/Default/group 192x192/ emblem not valid. Many more such WARNINGs for different groups e.g. 96x96, 72x72 etc. When I looked into these directories, they were all empty.
