It's because we took a short cut to get a working Debian-related/based system up and running right off and rather painlessly rather than plodding through the installation according to the Debian way :-) This is changing for the better now, but hay, except for some script that says Knoppix 2.78 booting, I am running Sid and the latest 2.6.9 kernel.
