I have the following in ~/.inputrc set bell-style none set show-all-if-ambiguous on set completion-query-items 50 set page-completions On set expand-tilde On set visible-stats On It works. I can imagine that you need to logout and login again before it takes effect. If that doesn't work, post your bash version, debian version, kernel version.
