If the intended target audience is for Windows users, I would actually change all the files to DOS format. There's many, many ways you can do this. I happen to use a nice program called "flip" (which is apt-gettable). You use it thus: flip -m *.txt Which will convert all .txt files to msdos CR/LFs.
