yup... if one doesnt know what one is looking it, it doesn't mean anyting
        - happens to me till it sinks in one day ( or few weeks/yrs later)

my choice is always use the latest "official" kernels and harden that 
puppy ( the kernel) with as many kernel patches as needed to apease your
system security  paranoia

- debian's default kernels seem to be better than "average"
  whereas, the other distro's kernels sucks the royal big one

- but debian's kernel is not as "it works in all cases" config
  which is odd, since its just a bunch of modules to load
        - create a new initrd on the fly based on lspci results
        and than boot :-)  -- should be a fun project
