This would also make it so you would not need to use the 'equivs' package, and makes for cleaner, easier upgrades along the way. http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2004/07/msg01979.html It makes everything very easy, IMO. I very much prefer using the above mentioned instructions rather than having to compile from source "the old way".
