Here's the url to a mini-howto for compiling Debian packages. This would
also make it so you would not need to use the 'equivs' package, and
makes for cleaner, easier upgrades along the way.

It makes everything very easy, IMO. I very much prefer using the above
mentioned instructions rather than having to compile from source "the
old way".
