For the radeon you can try at boot to use the vga=791 option to have a VESA 1024x768, the sad thing is the refresh is only 60 Hz. You can play with the value to have bigger resolutions, or make a google search, i don't have at hand right now. I've tried to use the radeonfb driver but without success...
