"man X" says: The X Consortium requests that the following names be used when refer- ring to this software: X X Window System X Version 11 X Window System, Version 11 X11 Furthermore: <dpkg> | xorg is probably an alternative X implementation (a fork of XFree86 4.4RC2) from the X.Org Foundation - the current release is X11R6.8. It will not be packaged for Debian until after the Sarge release. At that time, Debian will probably go with the new modular packages of X.org, if it is ready, or the monolithic release if not.
