It also fails to come up with DMA enabled, and it looks like maybe the kernel is reporting this as a bug. It *is* finding the first partition, so it seems it ought to be finding hdb1. I would imagine that the reason it isn't has something to do with those set_drive_speed_status errors. If kernel 2.4.x works, I'd say this might be kernel bugs or kernel incompatibility with your hardware.
