I've found wdm to be pretty useful for diagnosing these kinds of problems (and in fact run it as my only display manager on most of my machines for precisely that reason; troubleshooting xdm is murder). If you select the safe mode from wdm, does it start? My suspicions lean towards a bad xsession script, but you say startx works, so that's weird. What's your default window manager? Anything in /var/log/auth.log, loginlog, syslog or user.log that looks useful and/or informative? - -- GnuPG public key available from http://ca.geocities.com/redvision.geo/gnupg_key.html -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.5 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFBLU8AMqUhaD+LmFcRAgvAAJ0QwhUn36UE9/bA2hzdfWcnCIwMQACgn9Pd hxefG5TuI0yyoxzN/g97cOk= =xmSK -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
