Getting the Sun JDK/JRE plugin to work is easy, as per the instructions at:

http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/java.html#Linux

Also, the j2se-package, erm, package, lets you build Debian-compliant
Java packages easily and those are supposed to configure the plugin
for you.

Of course, that's for the j2se, not the j2re, I hardly ever install
just a JRE as I'm a developer, so I don't know what Debian packages
you need if you don't want the j2se on your system.
