Thanks people. BTW, most of your answers assume I know my way around linux, and are incomprehensible. I originally *did* "Search the contents of packages", but it came back with a "search unavailable" message. Just tried it again, and found what I was looking for: http://packages.debian.org/stable/libs/xlibs cheers, keith.
