There is somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 solutions to your problem.
Ranging from fixing the preferred application, to using other
mail-clients(evolution, mutt, kmail, etc...) and using emacs with a mail
plugin and openlink from a GNOME-TERMINAL.

HOW CAN YOU SAY "preventing you from using Linux". It is just an excuse.
To be a Windows users, justifiable..
