This may not be a wise Again, you say you're trying to install debian on hdc and hdd. hda -- Primary Master hdb -- Primary Slave hdc -- Secondary Master hdd -- Secondary Slave These are all disks. Partitions in gnulinux (and might be other *nixes too) are like this: /dev/hda1 /dev/hda2 /dev/hda5 /dev/hda6 Here hda1 and hda2 are Primary partitions whereas hda5 and hda6 are logical partitions. Do some googling on Linux Partition Scheme.
