No! (And I refer you to my previous post in this thread). This "changing
run-level" nonsense is what gets a lot of people that have converted from
RH/SuSE/Mandrake to Debian! Let's clarify a few points:

Debian's runlevel organisation is that it does not make the distinction
between what is "graphical" and "text-based", it'll run /etc/init.d/xdm in
runlevels 2,3,(4),5 . If you don't want it to do that for a specific
run-level you can remove the symlinks in /etc/rc?.d/ by way of
"update-rc.d" (the manpage for which you should read :)).
