I'm not surprised. That kernel version lacks support for new hardware. I
suggest you download the new beta4 installer:

http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/daily/i386/beta4/sarge-i386-netinst.iso

burn that to a CD, and install it that way.
