for laptops, that gets connected and unconnected, you just need

xntpd or equiv is for machines that is on 24x7 so that it can
keep sync and trickle down to closer and closer to what the real time is
most people can handle being off a few seconds .. nothing bad will happen
and if your clock drifts more than a second over a 24hr period,
you're in deep kaa-kaa anyway

- chrony should also be listed, since there's some that
prefer it over ntpd

that should be the normal ntp daemon stuff which includes xntpd
- ntpd is the binary
- xntpd is the script to starts up the binary or vice versa
( different distro/packages mix and match and changes the
