Thanks for reply... I don't know anything about frame buffering in 
this video card ... have never done it.  Card has worked under SuSE 
and a previous Debian (Woody) without doing anything to it.  Dual 
boot with Win98se.

No BusID appears in Device section of the XF86Config-4, I tried 
putting it in and hosed the system -- am now reloading, so will try 
the Vesa driver when I get it up running again.

lspci gives address of 0000:00:8.0 for the video card.
