As usual, a release will be made when it is ready. Currently, there are three major factors in readiness: 1. Procedural/legal. In April, the Debian Social Contract was modified [1]. These changes had consequences [2] for release management that weren't anticipated (and possibly not intended) by many of the voters. Currently a new General Resolution is being voted upon [3] which may undo or curtail those consequences. 2. Release-critical bugs [4] which need to be dealt with. 3. The availability of an installation system. Work is being done towards a release candidcate of the new Debian Installer [5]. > Also will it ship with a 2.6 kernel? Beta 4 of the Debian Installer has experimental support for the 2.6 kernel on the i386 architecture.
