I use the latex-auctex-emacs combination for document creation (even
presentatiions using latex-beamer). I become frustrated when I work
with a "wordprocessor" like Openoffice, Abiword or even Lyx although I
sometimes use them. I like the control I have with Latex over what is
happening to my documents.
If you like Lyx, why not create your own templates. With a creative
mind there are endless possibilities.
