I'm trying to get kdm working with sawfish, without using kde. I've been reading the code in /etc/kde3/kdm/Xsession, /etc/X11/Xsession and /etc/X11/Xsession.d/*, and my conclusion is that kdm is not meant to read ~/.xsession when it is asked to run sawfish or another window manager. (As an aside, I can't see how the code will ever read ~/.xmodmap.)
If that's the way it's meant to be, fine, but how do I best get the basic .xsession functionality, e.g. running programs, doing a little xmodmap tweaking, defining a background? If the answer is .sawfishrc, any pointers to a good summary?
