I now have java on path, JAVA_HOME, CLASSPATH. Problems remain.
Netbeans, which one worked, then kicked me off X, now get the following: Error occurred during initialization of VM java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object
Another swing app does what Netbeans used to: Cannot convert some string ... and then kicks me off X. I cannot save the whole message because I am kicked out.
Here are env entries: PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/games:/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_04/bin JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_04/jre
omit /jre, it is : JAVA_HOME=/usr/j2sdk1.4.2_04
CLASSPATH=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_04/jre/lib/rt.jar
same here, omit /rt.jar What says the console if you give in java -version

Would those "dummy" packages for Sun Java make an diffrence?
I am running Debian, 2.6.5-4 kernel, KDE. Jave is from Sun, RPM converted to DEB and installed.
