I have Woody (with a 2.2.19pre17 kernel) running on a '386/40 with 20MB. I use it as a firewall with ipchains. It has a graphics card (VGA), but no monitor so I use an old VT101 on a serial line. It has several NIC's so LAN-based login via ssh is possible as well. At 7.6 bogomips, it isn't fast (especially for upgrade or initial install), but for checking E/N packets, it is adequate.
