i would assume so.

in fact, i think i found the error. i start remind with the -z option
so it runs in daemon mode. this is useful to remind me via popup of
timed events.

however, i also use a command line to print today's reminders like so

  /usr/bin/remind -mb1 -gaaa /home/madduck/etc/remind/remind

which causes it to fork off into the background for the timed
reminders. i simply added -q to the command line, and now it works.

doh, sometimes debian-user can be so helpful if all it does is get you
to think more.
