Just have a look at /usr/lib/menu/mplayer. Mine looks like this: ?package(mplayer):command=/usr/bin/gmplayer section="Apps/Viewers" needs=X11 title=gmplayer Then, try to re-run update-menus. If that doesn't work or you really want to call mplayer (without the gui) just drop on appropriate menu definition into /etc/menu (just read the README in there) and re-run update-menus.
