i was helping a friend set up procmail the other day, and he asked about the final colon (local lockfile) on the recipes. i told him i'd never used them (well, have on some recipes, haven't on others; haven't noticed a difference) and have never noticed a difference. the procmailrc(5) manpage "highly reccomends" use of lockfiles (do they mean local?), and says that things can wind up in a big mess if you don't. but it's not very enlightening about what exactly is being locked ...
anyone have any opinions / dogma to share on the use or omission of the second colon? thanks, </nori> -- .~. nori @ sccs.swarthmore.edu /V\ http://www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/~nori/jnl/ // \\ @ maenad.net /( )\ www.maenad.net ^`~'^
