In what way did you notice Debian specific differences? I know of no specific differences to the DNS configuration files. It works for me. The O'Reilly book, "DNS and BIND" by Paul Albitz & Cricket Liu is the best tutorial reference on the subject. You probably want the 4th edition covering bind 9.
