No, your sources.list is wrong.  Try
deb ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free

Or maybe
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free

(Can't vouch for the second one, as I use ftp in my sources.list)
