sounds like you do not have the video4linux drivers loaded. What drivers are you *using* and what options are you passing to them? for example, on one of my machines which runs xawtv 24/7/365 I use: modprobe bttv card=51 tuner=2 modprobe tuner type=2 modprobe msp3400 this allows me to use my Hauppauge WinTV/PCI.
