sounds like a hardware problem. maybe ide controller, maybe your trying to force DMA mode on a controller/disk that is not very good at DMA(at least under linux). Maybe the disk is dieing(this would be my guess). Maybe the cable is going bad, maybe the cable is too long(IDE spec requires cables to be 18"). but the hda lost interrupt would tell me its either a driver or a hardware issue, most likely hardware .. Abit BP6 has a history of bad problems(I was the unfortunate owner of one for over a year and spent that year trying to make it stable some revs are bad others are not so bad), though I am not certain of any specific problems related to the IDE controller.
