Hello together, after a successful mainframe introduction, we want to continue with an hands-on workshop as part of our bi-weekly training series. The next training session will be next Tuesday, 31st March 2026, in our openSUSE zSystems meeting channel: https://meet.opensuse.org/s390x The time will be 19:00 (German time)/ 10:00 (Pacific time)/ 18:00 (Nigeria) / 14:00 (Brazil).
Everybody is welcome! Are you a Linux user and do you want to know, how to communicate with the different mainframe devices? Then this session is for you! You will learn the different Linux commands as part of the s390-tools and how they work. We will cover following topics: 1) The Channel Architecture 2) Introduction to s390 tools 3) Disks: zFCP and DASD 4) Networking 5) Hands-On in the LinuxONE (OSS) Community Cloud You will need mainframe VMs for this training! If you are not part of SUSE or Red Hat, you can receive a VM for free via the LinuxONE Community Cloud (located in the Marist College): https://linuxone.cloud.marist.edu/#/register?flag=VM That is free for all! After 120 days, the user account (+ VM) will be removed and you can re-order. Open Source Projects can receive long-term access. Afterwards, you are enabled for using Linux on Z environments with a good understanding about the different I/O devices. You will receive such invitations bi-weekly (also for the next training sessions)! That is a lot for 90 minutes. Therefore, it is good to have a break for thinking about the content before jumping to the next topics for becoming a professional Linux on Z Developer. 🙂 Best regards (from Chemnitz Linux Days), Sarah and Ihno openSUSE zSystems
