See: https://github.com/sddm/sddm/blob/v0.18.0/data/scripts/Xsession#L54 Official sddm 0.18 sources .xprofile [ -f /etc/xprofile ] && . /etc/xprofile [ -f $HOME/.xprofile ] && . $HOME/.xprofile But, debian package doesn't source .xprofile Sourcing .xprofile is missing from /etc/sddm/Xsession And there is the Xsession file in the http://deb.debian.org/debian/pool/main/s/sddm/sddm_0.18.0-1.debian.tar.xz Please update debian/Xsession file or use official Xsession.
