Here's a question though: Since KDE cannot function properly without a window 
manager, why isn't a window manager in the KDE package dependency chain? I 
understand some users may prefer a different window system and/or window 
manager but shouldn't KDE package, by default, include everything that KDE 
actually needs to run properly?

I asked this question on deb-user but did not receive an answer that would 
allow me to solve the issue, so I filed this bug. As for the debian-kde list, I 
didn't even know it existed until you brought it up.
