This is really cool, thank you a lot for working on it! The KDE frontend will also be much easier to maintain with debconf-kde-helper, porting it to Qt 6 when it arrives should be very easy. This change may also help with a current effort to improve the way debconf is handled when packages are installed via PackageKit (by potentially making it possible to get rid of KDE special-casing).
