We already established some time ago, i.e. after reassigning #884956, that this is https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-53022. The only difference on the VLC side is that VLC 3.0.x enables HiDPI scaling via QApplication::setAttribute( Qt::AA_EnableHighDpiScaling); and VLC 2.2.x didn't.
