In Debian, baloo_file is disabled by default (https://salsa.debian.org/qt-kde-team/kde/baloo/blob/master/debian/patches/Disable-the-file-indexer-by-default.patch) in order to start it you need to have enabled it. If you do, it seems reasonable to have it running.
Hmmmm.... I am not aware that I changed anything, but baloo was definitely running on my cinnamon DE.
How do I *disable* this setting again?
The configuration file should be in ~/.config/baloofilerc, in Debian, the default value is:
[Basic Settings] Indexing-Enabled=falseThis can also be configured using KDE system settings (sytemsettings5) -> Workspace -> File Search (or kcmshell5 kcm_baloofile)
I'm not completely sure if a running indexer would notice a change in the configuration file, so you might need to signal the baloo_file processes.
