Do you think the size of .xsession-error could have triggered this? I deleted the file on my machine, to have something smaller to send, and restarted the session to make sure that the file was closed.
After doing this, I can't seem to reproduce the issue, while before it would happen by keeping my screen locked for less than 1h.
