Unfortunately I could not find a package containing the debug symbols
for kwin-common (e.g. kwin5_aurorae.so).

kwin, and the rest of the kde packages (frameworks, plasma and applications)
use the Automatic Debug packages [1]. The package you are looking for is:
kwin-common-dbgsym. You will need to add the repos:
deb http://debug.mirrors.debian.org/debian-debug/ testing-debug main
to your sources.list.
