In an attempt to work round this problem I completely removed the panel at the bottom of my screen. Then I logged out and back in again - the panel returned! It seems as if changes to panels just *aren't* being saved. I've double-checked that everything under my home directory *is* actually owned by me, just in case that was the problem. Workaround: if I log out of KDE then log into a console session, then remove ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc then completely recreate my desktop (a pain though) I can (so far) get icons on my panel to stay where they are put. Digging deeper, if I compare the current ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc with an older version in my backups, the new file is considerably smaller than the old one (18k / 921 lines compared with 25k / 1299 lines). Examining the old file, it appears to have a large number of entries for things which have been on the panel in the past but subsequently removed. It appears that Plasma keeps the old entries while not displaying them. Perhaps the problem is that when a certain number of old entries are there, Plasma can no longer properly work out what it's doing? - -- Tony Green Ipswich, Suffolk, England web-brewer.co.uk/ beermad.org.uk/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2 iEYEARECAAYFAlX65H8ACgkQHf266u2LTbZXfwCeK0ZP7wEWToK7Z+7nSh81Snod odQAn1Mhc7o5ovwQQz/6tippfW42K94E =2m/s -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
