Yes, I have successfully switched to use again the free drivers. I have no problem with them, using kdm I can start KDE sessions twice.

I use other distros: Ubuntu, Fedora, openSuse in the same machine, with the same version of the nvidia driver installed from their own non-free respositories (in Fedora I use rpmfusion, exception) I never had this problem using kdm in that distributions, even I didn't had this problem with Debian Squeeze.
