Hello, I have same problem on Kubuntu with KDE 4.8.5 If I log in with a different and new user, klipper icon correctly appear and application run. So I think this is a conflict with some other application. During KDE startup, after desktop appear, a system notification tell me that some application is not correctly running or has been stopped... this application could be klipper.
