Package: dolphin
Version: 4:4.4.5-2
Severity: normal
Since my system switched to amd64 (previously used i386 arch), I
noticed that kde programs such
as dolphin but also konqueror fail to display filenames with utf-8
characters correctly (these files are on a local ext3 system but
same thing with nfs export files). My locale says
locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
and these filenames are correclty displayed on console or terminal.
Note that Debian bug #610401 which I observed myself before (when using
i386 arch) does not happen anymore and I can rename these incorreclty
displayed files. However, this create file names which are displayed
correctly in dolphin or konqueror but whose encoding is not utf-8
(and neither is it iso-88519-1): the python chardet method gives
'confidence': 0.83903171193432202, 'encoding': 'ISO-8859-2'
but I cannot confirm this (tried with hu_HU.ISO-8859-2 on console and
display was not correct either but could be a font availability issue).
