Inspecting the command line output reveals a message: 'lpr: Bad job-sheets value ""!'. The cause is i a incorrect line in /etc/cups/printers.conf. Instead of 'JobSheets none none', there is only 'JobSheets'. After fixing the line, the printer works again.
